Under the INCI designation Oryza Sativa Cera, rice wax is a well-established raw material in cosmetic manufacturing. Due to its high melting point, it is often used as a hardening agent in solid products such as lip balms, deodorant sticks, or ointments. In emulsions, rice wax serves as a thickening agent and co-emulsifier. It stabilises oil and water phases and improves the texture of creams and lotions. On the skin, it supports the natural hydrolipid film and helps protect against dryness.

Sustainability and Origin

Oryza Sativa Cera is derived from rice bran, i.e. the outer layer of the rice grain. As a by-product of rice processing, it contributes to the sustainable use of plant-based resources and helps to reduce waste in the value chain.

Chemical Composition and Quality

Rice wax consists predominantly of long-chain wax esters formed from fatty alcohols and saturated fatty acids such as lignoceric acid, behenic acid, and palmitic acid. It also contains valuable unsaponifiable components such as phytosterols and squalene.

This composition gives the wax excellent physicochemical properties and makes it a high-performance alternative to conventional waxes in skincare.
