Today we show you how you can make beautiful flower candles from beeswax yourself. These DIY flower candles are not only a real eye-catcher, but also a wonderful way to express your creativity. And the best thing about it: You don’t need any special candle moulds!
What you need
- White beeswax RAL
- Wick (depending on the size of the flowers)
- Candle colour (we used antique pink & Bordeaux)
- Candle fragrance (optional)
- Additionally: melting pot/water bath, spoon, silicone mat
Step-by-step instructions
1. Melt and color the wax
First, we melt our beeswax in a water bath. Once it has melted, we add the candle color. We chose a beautiful antique pink shade. When the color pellet has dissolved completely, we add our candle fragrance. Our favorite: Oud Velvetrose.
2. Shape the core
Pour some wax onto the silicone mat and spread it evenly. Wait until the wax has cooled enough that it can be removed from the silicone mat. Lift it up, fold it several times, and knead it into a ball. This will become the core of your flower, through which the wick will run. You can either attach the wick around the ball or make a hole in the center with a needle and pull the wick through.
3. Pour the flower petals
Work quickly because beeswax cools down very fast, especially in thin layers. Pour the wax onto the silicone mat to shape the petals. As soon as they have cooled enough to be removed, peel them off and attach them to the core. Add petals until your rose has reached the desired shape and size.
4. Smooth the bottom
To ensure that your candle stands securely, you need to smooth the bottom. You can either cut off the bottom or heat a piece of metal (e.g. a knife) and gently melt the bottom to straighten it.
Color variations and larger flowers
Bordeaux Rose
For a larger rose, we used Bordeaux candle color and a little black to darken the shade. The color appears lighter on the petals because they are so thin. Repeat the process described above to create the core and the petals. If the petals are difficult to bend, you can warm them with a heat gun.
White Rose
For a larger white rose, we attached the petals further apart from each other to create a bigger flower. We poured the final petals slightly thicker to make the flower more stable.
