Our Sunflower Olive Wax C-3S is made from 100% plant-based raw materials, is produced in the EU and is a great alternative to Soy Wax C3. It is perfect for candles in jars or tins and also works very well with fragrances. We explain how it works here.
First, make sure to cover your workspace with a towel or something similar. Prepare everything you need for a water bath, as well as the sunflower olive wax, wicks and jars/tins, and you are ready to go. You can easily preheat the jars/tins by placing them on a radiator while the wax is melting.
We recommend starting with a small amount first – practice makes perfect!
1. Melting
Heat the wax to 70°C (not higher than 90°C!). Stir regularly and slowly while melting. A water bath works best for this. Make sure not to melt the wax too quickly or at too high a temperature.
2. Adding fragrance
The maximum fragrance addition varies between 8 and 10% depending on the oil. Some ingredients in fragrance oils can react with the crystallisation of natural waxes. Therefore, tests should always be carried out beforehand.
Fully stir the selected fragrance into the liquid wax at approx. 70°C.
3. Pouring
Allow the liquid wax to cool slightly (to approx. 50-55°C). The surroundings and containers should not be too cold (approx. 20°C) and the wax should not be too hot. It is best to attach the wicks to the bottom of the tins/glasses using wax adhesive tabs. Do not pour the wax into the tins/glasses too quickly. Air bubbles can easily be removed by gently tapping the container on the surface from time to time. To stabilise the wicks while cooling, place a fork over the tin/glass to support the wick.
4. Topping up
If small cracks or uneven areas appear, simply pour a thin additional layer of wax after the candle has hardened slightly.
5. Hardening
Allow the candles to harden for around 12 hours at room temperature. The best option is to place them on a cooling rack with enough space between each candle.
6. Giving as a gift or lighting
Your homemade candles are a wonderful way to make someone happy, or you can light them and enjoy them yourself. If you used fragrance and have leftover wax, you can easily make wax melts from it - simply pour the remaining wax into small moulds (e.g. chocolate moulds).
