Gum Rosin WW Grade
Gum rosin (also known as colophony) is a tree resin that is mainly extracted from pine trees. When cold, the resin is light yellow, transparent and splinters easily. However, colour and hardness vary according to condition. This product is "WW Grade", the highest quality of rosin. Due to its structure it does not have a clearly defined softening point, it ranges from 75 - 84 °C. Rosins are readily soluble in alcohol, benzene, ether, acetone and acetic acid.
Application
Gum Rosin is used as a processing aid, binder, flux and lubricant. Colophony can be used as a flux in solder paste, to improve the static friction of bows for stringed instruments and to increase the tackiness of wax mixtures. Rosin is also used in the production of printing inks, lacquers, adhesives, rubber, sealants and caulks. It usually fulfils a stabilising function, increases the adhesive effect or accelerates drying.
Further Information
Rosin should be stored dry and protected from heat.
Transport and handling can cause pastilles to break and create a slightly higher dust content.
If exposed to high heat, the resin will stick together. Therefore, storage should be as cool as possible. We do not guarantee for free flowing goods.
