What is plucking wax?
Plucking wax is a special wax for poultry processing. It is used after scalding to reliably remove any remaining feathers, down and quills from the skin. Once it has cooled, the wax layer can simply be peeled off together with the remaining feathers.
Where is plucking wax used?
Plucking wax is suitable for many types of poultry, including chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys and guinea fowl. It is particularly effective for waterfowl, as it cleanly captures fine down and stubborn feather remnants. We stock two variants: Plucking Wax 706 and Plucking Wax Special 842.
Plucking Wax 706
Plucking Wax 706 is designed for pre-plucked poultry and helps achieve a fast, clean final result. The wax blend is food-safe and produced in Italy. The wax is melted in a water bath at around 60 to 62 °C and then the fully pre-plucked bird is dipped into it. After cooling, the wax layer can be peeled off together with feathers, down and surface impurities. The used wax can be reused after sieving or filtering.

Plucking Wax Special 842
Plucking Wax Special 842 contains a particularly high adhesive content and is therefore ideal for fattier poultry, such as geese. Its setting point is between 53 and 58 °C, and it meets the requirements for contact with food. The wax is produced in Italy and is designed for strong adhesion while still allowing clean removal. Here too, the pre-plucked bird is dipped into the melted wax, and after cooling the wax layer can be removed together with the embedded feather remnants and down. After filtering, the wax can be reused.

Bulk quantities for businesses
For smaller slaughter volumes, we already offer units from 5 kg. For larger requirements, 25 kg units as well as pallet and truck deliveries are also available. For requirements of 250 kg or more, we can provide individual terms for your business.
How to use plucking wax
Prepare the wax
Melt the plucking wax in a water bath and keep it at around 60 to 65 °C during use.Prepare the poultry
After scalding, roughly pre-pluck the bird by hand or machine so that most of the feathers have already been removed.First dip
Briefly dip the bird into the liquid wax so that all areas are evenly coated.Allow to drain
Lift the bird out and let excess wax run off briefly.Cool briefly
Then briefly dip the bird in cold water or allow it to harden in the air.Second waxing
Dip the bird into the wax a second time so that a stable, easy-to-peel layer forms.Allow the wax to harden
Wait until the wax layer has fully set.Peel off the wax
Peel the layer from top to bottom until feathers, quills and down have been completely removed.Check
Check whether any wax residues remain and remove them if necessary.Reuse the wax
Melt the used wax again and clean it through a sieve or cloth.
Practical notes
For smaller quantities, around 5 kg of plucking wax is often sufficient. During use, a bird takes up approximately 100 g of wax, so the wax bath should be topped up regularly. Birds in moult or with skin damage are not suitable for this method. It is also important not to overheat the wax so that it retains its adhesive properties.
