Shellac Blond Dewaxed
We offer high-quality, pure shellac. This is a natural resin obtained from the excretions of the lacquer scale insect. To produce this pure and light-colored variety, the shellac is dewaxed and cleaned. Shellac is brittle, hard, odorless and tasteless at room temperature. This product is made in Germany from selected raw materials, mainly of Thai origin. We supply the resin in flakes, also known as shellac flakes. This dewaxed variety is more waterproof and durable than shellac containing wax. Shellac is soluble in alcohol, slightly soluble in acetone and ether and insoluble in water.
Application
Shellac is used to produce very high-quality polishes and sealers for furniture or other hard surfaces. To prepare a solution, we recommend mixing high-quality ethanol (96 %) with approx. 15 - 25 % shellac. The solution should then be well sealed so that the ethanol does not evaporate. Regular stirring or shaking will cause the shellac to dissolve completely within a few hours. The solution can also be kept well sealed for later use.
Notes
Shellac should be stored in a dry place and protected from heat. Please note that this product only meets food requirements in 25 kg containers.
In 1893, Bernhards & Stroever was founded, initially as a trading house, mainly importing copal (a natural resin) and raw shellac. Following the development of a special process the company soon concentrated exclusively on the refining of shellac. In 1961, Stroever & Co. combined its shellac production at plants in Hamburg and Mainz under the name of Kalkhof GmbH Petersen & Stroever KG (KPS). Later the production was brought together in Mainz and Bremen, at last to be concentrated in Bremen. Under the name KPS, shellac products from Bremen have acquired a world-wide reputation for their high quality. Since 1995, the company headquarter has also been located in Bremen again. With the traditional name Stroever, Stroever Schellack Bremen (SSB) as a family owned company unites the innovation potential of a new generation with the wealth of experience over 125 years in shellac production. In 2020, a significant expansion in the form of a hall and an office building has been build at the traditional location in the Muggenburg quarter of Bremen’s Überseestadt. The realization was supported with funds from the federal government and the state of Bremen. As a passionate producer of natural products, environmental protection is of course very important to SSB. Waste heat from production is used for heating all year around and with the new photovoltaic system there is now an own energy generation, which is also used for cooling our warehouse.
