USDA Organic Carnauba Wax T1 Prime Yellow Flakes E 903
Carnauba Wax T1 Prime Yellow represents the highest quality grade of this natural plant-based wax. It is derived from the unopened buds of the Brazilian carnauba palm and is characterised by its particularly light, pure yellow colour and a pleasantly plant-like scent. This quality meets the requirements of the USDA Organic standard.
What is the difference between USDA Organic Carnauba Wax and EU Organic Carnauba Wax?
Both the USDA Organic label (USA) and the EU Organic label (European Union) certify that a product is organically produced. Both certifications require that the carnauba wax is sourced from certified organic cultivation, without the use of synthetic pesticides or genetically modified organisms. Products bearing the EU Organic or USDA Organic certifications are traceable and subject to regular inspections. The aim of both certifications is to promote environmental protection and ensure sustainable agricultural practices.
However, the two labels differ in the details of their regulations and certification processes:
For carnauba wax, USDA Organic permits the use of hydrogen peroxide for bleaching, whereas EU Organic regulations prohibit such bleaching. For this reason, USDA Organic carnauba wax may not be labelled as organic within the EU.
For customers in the EU, we offer EU-certified organic carnauba wax.
Technical Properties
Very high melting point (>80 °C): Carnauba wax is the most natural wax with the highest melting point. When melted, it is very fluid, but once solidified it becomes extremely hard and glossy.
Applications
- Food industry: Approved as glazing agent E 903. Used for glazing confectionery (e.g. gummy bears) and coating fruit to provide shine and prevent sticking or premature melting.
- Cosmetics industry: A valuable base for solid cosmetic products such as lipsticks and mascara. Enhances consistency, ensures a pleasant skin feel and supports the stability of formulations.
- Technical applications: Ideal for high-quality polishes (e.g. car polish, musical instrument polish, shoe care products), offering a particularly glossy, protective surface.
Notes
Due to its natural origin, properties such as colour may vary slightly. Carnauba wax should be stored dry, cool and protected from light.
The manufacturer Carnaúba do Brasil from the Itarema region in northern Brazil (in the region around Fortaleza) is one of the largest and most renowned producers of carnauba wax worldwide. Very high-quality carnauba wax is extracted from the open and closed leaves of the carnauba palm (Copernicia Prunifera) and processed in a fine process. Only a part of the leaves is harvested from the palms, so that the palm is not hindered in its growth. Thus a carnauba palm can be used for many years as an important supplier for this high-quality wax.
Carnauba do Brasil has a share of approx. 20% in the worldwide production of natural carnauba wax and is therefore an important manufacturer of this product. Both flake and powder qualities are produced.
