What is stearin?
Stearin is a common trade term for a fatty acid blend that consists mainly of palmitic acid (C16) and stearic acid (C18). Both fatty acids occur naturally in plant and animal fats and oils. The ratio of C16 to C18 fatty acids determines how hard, dimensionally stable and heat-resistant the raw material is. That is precisely why stearin is well suited to candles, soaps and cosmetic applications.
Stearin is a proven raw material for candle manufacturing. As a candle wax, it provides high dimensional stability, even setting and a smooth, clean surface. Due to its high melting point and high hardness, it is used especially for free-standing candles. In cast candles and moulded candles, stearin makes demoulding easier and helps reduce shrinkage cracks during cooling. In wax blends, it additionally improves hardness, opacity and the structure of the finished product. This makes stearin suitable both for pure stearin candles and for wax blends with specifically optimised properties.
Fatty acid blends of palmitic acid and stearic acid are versatile raw materials for cosmetic formulations. Stearic acid is used as a consistency agent, emulsifier and texture enhancer and can stabilise creams, lotions and cleansing products. In soaps and shaving products, it supports foaming and product hardness. Palmitic acid also provides structure and is used in skin and hair care formulations as a softening and consistency-giving raw material. The ratio of both fatty acids influences the texture and skin feel of the final formulation.

MASCID 1800
MASCID 1800 is a high-quality, triple-pressed palmitic/stearic fatty acid blend from sustainable palm oil. The raw material is suitable for stable cosmetic formulations and professional candle applications. It supports creamy emulsions and also improves hardness, opacity and burning behaviour in candles.

MASCID 1802
MASCID 1802 is a high-quality, triple-pressed palmitic/stearic fatty acid blend from sustainable palm oil. Compared with MASCID 1800, this raw material has a higher stearic acid content and is suitable for cosmetic formulations as well as professional candle production.

- Stearic acid content: approx. 48%
MASCID 1698
MASCID 1698 consists of 98% palmitic acid and is produced from saponified palm oil. This plant-based saturated fatty acid (INCI: Palmitic Acid) is used in cosmetics as an emulsifier, consistency agent and emulsion stabiliser. It is used in products for bath and shower, skin care, sun care and decorative cosmetics.

Palmitic/Stearic fatty acid blend Tefacid
Tefacid is a product line from AAK, based in Sweden. The stearines are particularly suitable for the production of stearin candles and stand out for their white colour, good processing properties and consistent quality. Depending on the product, they can also support requirements relevant to environmental certifications such as the Nordic Swan or the EU Ecolabel.
Tefacid Shea 68
Tefacid Shea 68 is a high-quality stearin raw material based on shea butter, produced in Sweden. The pure white product impresses with consistent quality, good processing properties and a sustainable raw material basis. The shea fat is obtained from wild-growing shea nuts in West Africa.

Tefacid 1 VL H
Tefacid 1 VL H from AAK is a high-quality tallow-based stearin raw material, manufactured in Sweden. It is particularly suitable for cast stearin candles and supports a smooth surface, reduced dripping and lower soot formation.

Rapeseed stearin
Rape stearin is obtained entirely from rapeseed oil and is therefore an interesting plant-based alternative to palm-oil-based raw materials. The rapeseed oil sourced in Europe is further processed in Germany. The result is a white stearin with typical processing properties and a natural raw material base.
- Stearic acid content: approx. 90%
Olive stearin
Olive stearin is obtained entirely from olives and is a by-product of olive oil processing. It is created from the further processed fruit pulp that remains after oil extraction. The white stearin is suitable for applications where a plant-based raw material with typical stearin properties is required.
