Storax resin - Styrax - (Tree resin/Smoking resin)
We offer here a storax resin of best quality for industrial customers in large quantities as well as for small customers.
The storax resin, often just called styrax, liquid amber or balsam, is a fragrant tree resin used for incense or as a remedy.
Until the 18th century, it came exclusively from the storax tree (Styrax officinalis), which originated in Asia Minor and the eastern Mediterranean region. After that, most of the storax resin came from various species of amber trees (Liquidambar orientalis, Liquidambar styraciflua), which are therefore sometimes erroneously called storax trees. Accordingly, depending on the origin, the incense is called true styrax (resin of Styrax officinalis) and false styrax (resin of Liquidambar species).
It is obtained similarly to incense: The trunk is cut and the resinous mixture that emerges is collected. Since this raw material has a high liquid content, it must be refined afterwards. This is done either by air drying or by distillation.
The Styrax smoke has a heavy sweetish smell and has a relaxing and calming effect. The balm has been used for smoking since ancient times and is today the most important incense besides incense. Charcoal is usually soaked with Styrax balsam and then burned on charcoal or charcoal.
In perfumery it is appreciated in many classic scent compositions because of its balsamic-sweet, slightly grassy scent and is added as a fixative.
Among many other ingredients, Styrax consists mainly of cinnamic acid, styracine, cinnamic ethyl ether, vanillin, cinnamein, storesinol and a small amount of styrene.
