Candle Waxes for Candle Making

Candle waxes give the candle its shape and provide the fuel for the flame during burning. Depending on their composition, the wax used affects burn time, surface structure, and the stability of the candle. Selecting a suitable candle wax is therefore essential to achieve consistent and reliable results.

Depending on the candle type and manufacturing method, different types of wax are used. Some candle waxes are particularly suitable for pouring, while others are better suited for pillar candles or decorative shapes. Which candle wax is appropriate always depends on the intended application and the desired result.

In addition to the candle wax, other components also play an important role. In combination with suitable candle wicks, burn behaviour can be influenced in a targeted manner, while candle colours & varnishes and fragrance oils offer additional design options. For a coherent result, wax, wick, and other materials should be matched to one another.

What Types of Candle Wax Are Available?

Various candle waxes are used in candle making, differing primarily in their origin and properties. Vegetable waxes are derived from renewable raw materials and are often characterised by a natural appearance, sustainability, and environmental compatibility. Mineral waxes are based on fossil raw materials and are known for their uniform processing and stable burning properties.

In addition, wax blends are used that combine different types of wax. These are employed to bring together specific properties, such as an even surface, stable burn behaviour, or easier processing. Depending on the type of wax, melting point, surface appearance, and handling during candle making vary.

Accordingly, our range includes different candle waxes for various applications, including vegetable waxes such as rapeseed wax or soy wax, animal waxes such as beeswax, and mineral waxes such as paraffin wax.

Which Candle Wax Is Suitable for Your Project?

There is no universal answer to the question of which candle wax is the best. Different types of wax are suitable for different applications. Beeswax is often used when a natural appearance and a characteristic natural scent are desired. Paraffin wax is particularly suitable for uniform shapes and reliable processing, for example for classic candles or series production.

Vegetable waxes such as rapeseed or soy wax are often used for poured candles and are chosen when sustainability aspects or specific surface effects are required. The decisive factors are always how the candle is produced and which properties it is intended to have in the end.

Anyone wishing to colour candles should also consider that different types of wax behave differently during colouring and should therefore be matched accordingly with candle dyes & coatings.
