Carnauba Wax T4 Fat Grey is a plant-based wax obtained from the leaves of the Carnauba palm native to Brazil (Copernicia prunifera). This refined wax grade is specifically offered for technical applications. The practical flake form facilitates dosing and processing. The following qualities of Carnauba wax are available from us:
| Type | Colour | Extraction | Properties | Applications |
| Organic T1 | Prime Yellow / Primagelb | Unopened, young leaves | Highest purity and certified organic quality | Food and cosmetics |
| T1 | Prime Yellow / Primagelb | Unopened, young leaves | Highest purity | Food (25 kg only) and cosmetics |
| T3 | Light Fat Grey / Hellfettgrau | Outer leaves after weather exposure | Medium purity | Cosmetics and industrial applications |
| T4 | Fat Grey / Fettgrau | Outer leaves after weather exposure | Fewer processing steps, more natural | Industrial applications |
Properties
- Exceptional hardness: Carnauba wax is considered the hardest natural plant wax, providing a stable, durable surface.
- High melting point (82–86 °C): This ensures the wax remains shape-stable even at high temperatures and is suitable for applications with thermal stresses.
- Gloss enhancement: It produces an intense, long-lasting shine, especially valued in surface polishes and coatings.
- Film-forming, protective effect: Forms a water-repellent, protective film that shields materials such as wood, metal, paints or stone from environmental influences.
- Chemical stability: Insoluble in water and resistant to many chemicals.
- Versatile applicability: Used as a functional ingredient to improve scratch resistance, friction resistance and surface hardness.
- Natural product, 100% pure, free from solvents and additives.
Applications
- Automotive industry: Main component of car waxes and polishes for scratch-resistant, protective and glossy paint protection
- Furniture and wood industry: Care and protection of wood, floors, musical instruments, and much more
- Construction industry: Surface treatment of wood, stone, concrete and roofing materials as an ecological alternative to synthetic coatings
- Paints and coatings: Micronised carnauba wax to increase scratch resistance and reduce friction in coatings
- Niche applications: Shoe care, candle coatings, printing inks, didgeridoo mouthpieces, carbon paper and other technical special applications
Sustainability and Environment
Carnauba Wax T4 is a renewable, natural raw material. The harvest is carried out sustainably and carefully by selecting only certain leaves without damaging the palm – ensuring the resource’s long-term preservation. It is biodegradable, free from chemical additives, and considered safe for health.
Is Carnauba Wax Palm Oil?
No, Carnauba wax is not palm oil. Carnauba wax is obtained from the leaves of the Carnauba palm (Copernicia prunifera), which is native to Brazil. Palm oil, on the other hand, is extracted from the fruit of the oil palm (Elaeis guineensis). Palm oil and palm kernel oil are oils with completely different chemical properties compared to Carnauba wax, which is a solid wax. Therefore, these are two entirely distinct substances, even though both come from palms.
Notes
Due to its natural origin, properties such as colour may vary slightly. Carnauba wax should be stored dry, cool and protected from light.

The manufacturer Carnaúba do Brasil from the Itarema region in northern Brazil (in the region around Fortaleza) is one of the largest and most renowned producers of carnauba wax worldwide. Very high-quality carnauba wax is extracted from the open and closed leaves of the carnauba palm (Copernicia Prunifera) and processed in a fine process. Only a part of the leaves is harvested from the palms, so that the palm is not hindered in its growth. Thus a carnauba palm can be used for many years as an important supplier for this high-quality wax.
Carnauba do Brasil has a share of approx. 20% in the worldwide production of natural carnauba wax and is therefore an important manufacturer of this product. Both flake and powder qualities are produced.
