Glycerine Melt and Pour Soap Base – Clear

Clear Glycerine Soap – The Ideal Base for Soap Making

Our standard clear soap base from Stephenson is the perfect foundation for customised soap creations. With its high glycerine content, it delivers deep hydration and leaves the skin feeling soft and smooth. The transparent formula is ideal for vibrant designs, layering techniques, and embedded elements such as dried flowers or glitter.

Whether for personal use or as a handmade gift – this melt & pour base opens up endless creative possibilities. Its easy processing makes it suitable for beginners and professionals alike, as it melts effortlessly, can be customised, and is ready to pour into moulds.

What is Glycerine Soap and What Makes it Special?

Glycerine soap is a specific type of soap base with a high glycerine content, which binds moisture and keeps the skin supple. Compared to traditional soap (also called “curd soap”), it is milder and much easier to work with. Glycerine soap is available in clear or white varieties and is ideal for creative soap making. It holds colour well and can be enhanced with essential oils, exfoliants, or decorative elements.

How to Melt Glycerine Soap Properly

  1. Preparation: Cut the required amount of glycerine soap into smaller pieces to ease melting.
  2. Melting: Slowly heat the soap in a water bath at approx. 75 °C, or melt it in short intervals in the microwave. Stir occasionally until fully liquefied.
  3. Customising: Add colours, fragrances or nourishing ingredients as desired. A total of up to 3% additives is recommended, with fragrance limited to a maximum of 1%.
  4. Pouring: Carefully pour the melted soap into silicone moulds. A light spray of rubbing alcohol helps to eliminate air bubbles.
  5. Cooling & Curing: The soap can be poured directly into suitable moulds or left to set in the packaging. Allow it to cool and harden completely before unmoulding. For best results, let the soap rest in a cool place for around 24 hours – this makes it easier to release. Once fully cured, the soap can be packaged or used as needed.

Which Is Better: Curd Soap or Glycerine Soap?

Glycerine soap is more skin-friendly and moisturising due to its glycerine content. Curd soap has a lower fat content, is more drying, and is harder to melt. For creative soap crafting, glycerine soap is the better choice.

How Long Does Glycerine Soap Take to Melt?

Depending on the amount and method, it takes about 2–5 minutes in the microwave or 10–15 minutes in a water bath. Glycerine soap should never be boiled, as the evaporation of water can make the soap brittle or cloudy later on.

Why Does Glycerine Soap "Sweat"?

Glycerine is hygroscopic and draws moisture from the air. This can result in a slightly sticky or damp surface on the soap. To prevent this, glycerine soap should be stored in a dry place or sealed airtight, for example in cling film.
