Sugarcane Wax
Sugarcane is an interesting raw material for the industrial production of sugar, but it also serves as a raw material for some other products. Among other things, sugar cane contains a small amount of about 0.1 % sugar cane wax. Due to the large production quantities of sugar cane, there is a broad raw material basis for the production of sugar cane wax. Therefore this product is well available and is not subject to the typical fluctuations in price and availability, as they are known from other natural waxes.
Use of sugar cane wax:
Sugar cane wax can be used as a substitute for some well-known waxes such as carnauba wax and some montan waxes and is also an interesting raw material for plant-based so-called organic polishes. It is similarly hard compared to carnauba wax and differs only slightly in its melting point.
Sugar cane wax is usually used in applications where high melting point natural waxes can be found. It can be used for food contact and is classified as 'GRAS' in the USA. It can also be used as a care product for shoes, floors and cars. The wax can also be used in the leather and plastics industries as well as in decorative cosmetics. Sugarcane wax can also be used in the paint and printing ink industry. Another application of sugar cane wax is as a coating and retarding agent, e.g. for fertilizers.
