ROMONTA is the world's largest producer of raw montane wax with a nearly 100-year tradition in lignite refining. Romonta extracts the fossil wax from bitumen-rich lignite from the company's own opencast mine in Amsdorf.

The raw montan wax is extracted from the beginning according to a patent of the Hamburg chemist Edgar von Boyen in a continuously improved production technology, today in a modern high-tech process.

Montan wax with its special properties is an important basic material in many branches of industry. Montan wax products from Amsdorf were thus able to maintain their position on the world market in the long term despite countless new developments of synthetic waxes.

From producer to service provider for application-oriented waxes

In recent years, ROMONTA has developed from a pure producer of raw montan wax and montan wax products into an expert and service provider for special wax applications. In addition, ROMONTA is involved in expert networks for the increased material use of domestic lignite deposits.
