For this DIY we used our Kerawax 4170 rapeseed wax for the base and 5761 rapeseed wax for the succulents. Alternatively, you can also use our soy waxes. You also need our candle colours brown, fir green and old rose. And of course our brown candle jars!
We recommend you start with one candle - practice makes perfect!
You will need:
- Brown Candle Jars
- Kerawax Rapswachs 4170 (Base)
- Rapseed Wax 5761 (Succulents)
- Candle Colour
- BWR Wicks
Also: water bath, hot air dryer, needle, knife/grater
1. Melting
Heat Kerawax to a temperature of 70 to max. 90 °C. When melting, stir regularly, but not too vigorously/quickly. This works best in a water bath. While the wax is melting, fix the wick in place using adhesive wax plates and centre it with a wick holder.
2. Pouring the base
Allow the wax to cool to about 50°C and preheat the jars in the meantime (e.g. with a hot air blower or simply on the radiator). Then slowly pour the Kerawax halfway into the jars.
By the way, our wax colours are also very suitable for mixing!
3. Brown wax for the soil
Add our brown candle colour to the remaining liquid Kerawax. When the colour has completely dissolved, we pour thin layers of wax. We used soap silicone moulds for this.
4. Rapeseed wax 5761 - succulents
While the base in the jars and the brown wax are hardening, melt a small amount of Rapeseed Wax 5761 in a water bath. As soon as the wax is liquid, you can add colour as you like. You can also add a little pastille at first, for a light shade, cast a few succulents and then add more colour for different shades of green. Before pouring, preheat the silicone moulds with a heat gun.
5. Prepare the "soil"
Once the brown wax has hardened, you can grate it with a grater or chop it with a knife so that it ends up looking like soil in the candle.
6. Unmould the succulents & assemble the candle
When the succulents are completely hardened, you can carefully unmould them. Use the hot air blower to melt the base wax a little and then spread the brown wax on top. Then place the succulents on a trial basis first and then melt them briefly on the underside with the hot air dryer, place them on the soil and press them down. We threaded one succulent through the wick because it was almost as big as the diameter of the glass. To do this, carefully poke a hole through the middle with a hot needle, melt the underside and then thread the succulent onto the wick and place it on the earth/press it down.
7. Gift or Light
The homemade candles are super easy to give to others or you can light them for yourself for your own enjoyment.
