Olive Stearic Acid
Olive stearic acid is 100% derived from olives, unlike conventional stearic acid, which is typically sourced from palm oil. It is a byproduct of the olive oil industry, extracted from the residual pulp left over after the oil extraction process. The end product is a pure, white stearin with a melting point of 53 - 63 °C. When heated, the liquid becomes clear and emits a typical stearin odor. This stearin is made from natural raw materials, making it biodegradable.
The distribution of fatty acids in olive stearic acid is approximately 50% C16 palmitic acid and 50% C18 stearic acid.
Applications
Stearic acid is primarily used for candle making. Candles made from stearic acid are usually produced through the pouring process and have a characteristic crystallization effect. Stearin candles are firmer than paraffin candles and offer better shape stability under heat, remaining stable even when exposed to direct sunlight. Olive stearic acid is particularly well suited for the production of pillar and container candles. In combination with SSD wicks, the wax burns evenly and steadily.
The product is also available in cosmetic grade upon request (INCI: Palmitic Acid, Stearic Acid).
Notes
Olives Stearic acid should be stored dry, cool and protected from light.
