Palmitic acid 98% mascid 1698
Palmitic acid (also called hexadecanoic acid) is produced from saponified palm oil. Palmitic acid is a saturated organic acid and is classified as a fatty acid. Palmitic acid in high purity - as offered here by over 98% - is a white, wax-like substance that resembles stearins or paraffins. It typically has a melting point of just over 60°C. The color is usually given as 'Color Lovibond' of 0.3 R 2.0 Y Max. Palmitates are the salts and esters of palmitic acid. Palmitic acid has a C-chain length of 16 and is accordingly called 'Palmitic C 16' by many producers. This type has a C 16 content of at least 98 % as well as myristic acid (C14) and stearic acid (C18) of maximum 2 % each and other fatty acids of less than 0.5 %. The palmitic acid offered here is purely plant based. It is offered from one of the largest manufacturers of palmitic acid in Indonesia.
Application
Palmitic acid usually is used in cosmetic applications. In soaps or foams for shaving, high percentages of palmitic acid is used. It can also be used to be added to natural candles, however, it's melting point is slightly lower than that of typcially used stearic acid. In technical applications, palmitic acid can also be used in certain industrial release agents, to release forms in technical casting. In other applications a different form of palmitic acid - sodium compounds of palmitic acid - sodium palmitate - is used.
