Gum Arabic, also known as acacia gum or Arabic gum, is the dried sap of the Acacia Senegal tree and related species. It is a resin-like, water-soluble substance classified in the food industry as E414. Gum Arabic is a highly versatile, plant-based additive used primarily as a stabiliser, emulsifier, and thickening agent in food and cosmetics. This gum arabic has been ground into a powder. For applications that require particularly good solubility and uniformity, we also offer gum arabic as a spray-dried and agglomerated powder.

Uses of Gum Arabic

Food Industry

• Acts as a thickener, stabiliser, and emulsifier in a wide range of foods, e.g. confectionery (such as gummy bears), beverages, baked goods, whipped cream stabilisers, cake glazes, marzipan, and powdered drinks. 
• Prevents sugar crystallisation in sweets and reduces ice crystal formation in frozen products.
• Stabilises emulsions and foams in drinks, such as soft drinks, beer, and sparkling wine.
• Enhances mouthfeel and prevents tartrate precipitation in wine.
  

Cosmetics

• Used as a binding agent, thickener, and emulsifier in skincare and body care products.
• Provides smudge resistance and a pleasant texture in decorative cosmetics such as mascara.

Technical Applications

• Binding agent in artist paints, such as watercolours.
• Used for gumming paper – e.g. stamps, envelopes, and labels.
• Niche applications include leather polish, lithography, and as a component in printer inks and varnishes.

Gum Arabic should be stored in a dry place at a temperature between 15°C and 25°C.
