Candelilla Wax – Plant Wax for Natural Cosmetics

Candelilla wax (often simplified as "Candelilla") is a highly pure, plant-based wax obtained from the wild-growing Candelilla plant (Euphorbia cerifera). The plant forms a natural wax layer on its leaves to protect against heat and environmental influences. During the extraction process, the leaves are boiled, the wax is skimmed from the surface and refined in several steps. The result: a hard, glossy wax in a beautiful yellow colour.

Candelilla Wax in Cosmetics

Candelilla wax is used in cosmetic products under the INCI name CANDELILLA CERA.

The wax consists of approximately 12–15% natural resins. This resin content is particularly significant in cosmetics, as it gives the wax its characteristic tough and sticky properties. Additionally, it impresses with protective and emollient effects, high chemical stability, a high melting point (69–73 °C), impermeability, dielectric properties and excellent gloss.

Technical Applications

Candelilla wax is used only selectively outside of cosmetics: as an additive in wood polishes, it provides increased gloss and weather resistance, and in automotive and shoe waxes, it imparts a high, long-lasting gloss.

Candelilla wax should be stored dry, cool and protected from light. Upon request, we can also offer 25 kg containers in food quality (E 902).
