Carnauba wax T1 flakes

Carnauba wax is a vegetable wax obtained from the leaves of the Brazilian carnauba palm (Copernicia cerifera). Carnauba is sold in the purity grades T1, T3 and T4, which are achieved by the age of the leaves, refining and bleaching. T1 corresponds to the purest and highest quality. Carnauba wax is the hardest known natural wax. Thanks to its high melting point of 82 - 86 °C, it remains stable even in warm rooms and in sunlight.

Application

Due to its high hardness and the strong but natural shine, carnauba wax is a popular ingredient for the production of car waxes, polishes, shoe polishes, care products for surfaces made of wood. The wax protects surfaces against water, dirt and UV light.

In the cosmetics industry, carnauba wax is used as a natural consistency agent and gives lipsticks and hair waxes, among other things, the necessary stability. In addition, it gives products a waterproof effect, makes them more resistant to heat and prevents them from feeling sticky.

In foods, the wax is labelled with the abbreviation E 903. Foodstuffs can be waxed with carnauba and thus receive a wax layer that protects against drying out and sticking. Fruits such as apples, pears, oranges or melons are waxed with carnauba wax and thus stay fresh longer. In confectionery, it can be used as a separating and coating agent. Carnauba wax has similar functions to beeswax or shellac, but is purely vegetable and therefore vegan. The wax also gives the food a beautiful sheen.
